Xbox Game Pass January 2026 Games: Complete Additions and Departures

Xbox Game Pass recorded 20 unique January-dated main-list or surprise additions from January 6 through January 29, 2026. That count includes the late-confirmed PC arrival of Quarantine Zone: The Last Check. Two games joined on their launch dates, while five games left on January 15 and seven more left on January 31.

This is a retrospective archive of what Xbox announced for January, not a current availability promise. The tables use the official dates, platforms, and plan labels from the two Xbox Wire waves, with the January 20 correction applied. January 2026 Game Pass at a glance

Wave 1 arrived on January 6 and covered additions through January 20. Wave 2 followed on January 20, repeated that day’s two releases, and then listed games through January 29 before previewing two early-February arrivals. It also caught up on a surprise January 12 PC game that had not appeared in the original first-wave lineup.

Part of the monthOfficial postUnique January additionsKey detail
January 6–20Wave 1, published January 611 announcedMIO was explicitly day one
Surprise additionConfirmed in Wave 21Quarantine Zone launched on PC January 12
January 21–29Wave 2, published January 208Death Stranding’s Handheld label was corrected
DeparturesBoth waves12 total5 on January 15; 7 on January 31

The total avoids double-counting Resident Evil Village and MIO: Memories in Orbit, which appeared at the end of Wave 1 and again as “available today” in Wave 2. It also excludes Indika and Final Fantasy II because their dates were February 2 and February 3. Complete January 2026 Game Pass additions

The following tables preserve what each January announcement said at the time. “Console” is a broad Xbox console label, while “Xbox Series X|S” is more specific. “Handheld” marked a game optimized for supported Windows gaming handhelds; it did not describe a separate subscription or a portable-console edition.

Plan placement also varied. Some January 7 games were already available through Ultimate or PC Game Pass and were newly extended to Game Pass Premium. Other catalog additions entered all three larger catalog plans at once. Historical plan labels can age, so check the current plan comparison before subscribing for one particular title.

The January 7 group was easy to misread as four new launches. Xbox’s wording was “Now with Game Pass Premium,” so those rows represented an expansion to that plan. The day’s additions gave Premium subscribers a survival adventure, an action roguelite, a competitive football game, and the enhanced version of the original Space Marine.

Quarantine Zone: The Last Check was not in the January 6 post. It launched for PC on January 12, then Xbox acknowledged it in Wave 2 under “In Case You Missed It” for Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It is inserted by its real January date so the archive does not inherit the incomplete first-wave list.

January 21–29 additions from Wave 2

Wave 2 leaned toward established releases. Death Stranding Director’s Cut brought Kojima Productions’ expanded delivery adventure to three catalog plans, while RoadCraft was PC-only in this announcement. The Talos Principle 2 is dated January 27 here because that is the date in Xbox’s first-party post; at least one secondary roundup printed January 26.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine II official key art used in Xbox's January 2026 Game Pass announcement
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II joined Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass for Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S on January 29.

The final two January additions served very different audiences. MySims: Cozy Bundle combined the gentler MySims and MySims Kingdom rereleases for PC players, while Space Marine II offered a campaign, three-player cooperative combat, and competitive multiplayer. Neither was a new January 2026 release, so neither is labeled day one.

January’s launch-day and late-confirmed games

MIO: Memories in Orbit was January’s clearly advertised day-one release. Xbox labeled it “available on day one,” and publisher Focus Entertainment confirmed that the handcrafted metroidvania launched worldwide on January 20 across PC and consoles while entering Xbox Game Pass the same day. In the January announcement, its subscription access was Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Quarantine Zone: The Last Check was the month’s surprise launch-day addition. The checkpoint-management game released on PC on January 12, and Xbox later documented it as playable through Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Because the Wave 2 catch-up used “Play today” rather than repeating a day-one badge, this archive calls it a launch-day surprise instead of pretending the January 20 post applied the same wording used for MIO.

No other January row receives a day-one label here. A game can be new to Game Pass without being newly released, and a newly released game should not be called day one unless its launch and subscription dates match. This conservative rule prevents a catalog expansion or tier movement from being promoted as a launch benefit it never had.

EA Play update, February previews, and official corrections

Wave 2 also listed The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for PC on January 22 under “DLC / Game Updates.” Its description said the legacy rereleases of The Sims and The Sims 2 were coming to EA Play. That was relevant membership content, but Xbox did not place it in the main “Coming Soon” catalog list, so it is documented here without inflating the 20-game main-addition total.

Two games announced in the same wave belonged to February: Indika was dated February 2 and Final Fantasy II February 3. Cross-month previews are useful to players, but assigning them to January merely because the article was published in January would make a monthly archive misleading.

Xbox’s January 20 editor’s note made two corrections. It added Handheld to Death Stranding Director’s Cut, which is reflected in the table above, and added Game Pass Premium to Indika. The latter correction is preserved as a boundary note rather than inserted into January because Indika still had a February date.

These plan and platform records describe the January announcements only. Catalog rights and device support can change later, and availability may vary by region. A historical wave should not be used by itself to decide whether a download is included today.

Games that left Game Pass in January 2026

Twelve games left during January in two batches. The January 15 group contained five titles, while the month-end group contained seven. The current rendered Xbox Wire page places Shady Part of Me and Cataclismo together on one line, but they are two separate games; Cataclismo carried a PC-only label.

Leaving the catalog ended subscription access; it did not automatically mean the game was delisted from sale. A player who purchased a departing game could continue under the store’s normal ownership rules. The member discount promoted before the January deadlines was time-sensitive and should not be assumed to exist now.

For removals that are still actionable, use the current leaving-soon tracker. A completed January 2026 list is useful for history and catalog research, but it cannot tell you what needs finishing this week.
