The platform column is a decision tool. “Console” can include a wider family of Xbox builds, while Xbox explicitly used Series X|S for several newer releases. “Handheld” is Xbox’s label for games optimized for handheld play, not a separate subscription. Plan labels are equally important: SpeedRunners 2 is day one for Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while several older or previously available titles join Premium.

Do not call the trial, update, or benefit three extra “new games.” NHL 27 offers a ten-hour EA Play early-access trial starting September 4. TCG Card Shop Simulator reaches version 1.0 on September 15 for an existing Game Pass entry. Aniimo’s September 16 item is an in-game reward pack for subscribers. Keeping those categories separate prevents an inflated lineup count.

September 1–4: Shelldiver, SpeedRunners 2, and Dice a Million

Shelldiver opened the month on September 1 for cloud, console, and PC through Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. Xbox describes an incremental game about an older turtle fishing for jellyfish, selling the catch, improving equipment, and exploring deeper biomes. It is the low-pressure choice in this wave: progress comes from repeated small upgrades rather than mastering a demanding combat system.

SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed follows September 3 on cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It is the first clearly labeled day-one catalog launch of the wave. The sequel builds races around running, jumping, grappling, items, and pushing rivals off screen. Xbox says it supports local races and up to eight players online, which makes it the best early-month download for a competitive group.

Local and online counts are not interchangeable, so verify the product page before planning an eight-person couch session. Series X|S is the listed console generation; Xbox did not announce an Xbox One build in the Wave 1 platform line. PC and console groups should also check cross-play details rather than assuming the common Game Pass launch guarantees it.

Dice a Million arrives September 4 on cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld-optimized devices, and PC. Xbox labels it “Now with Game Pass Premium” while also saying it joins Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The game is a roguelike dice/deck-building challenge about assembling a bag of dice and manipulating rolls with rings and other tools on the way toward an absurdly large target.

These three games create a useful first-week sampler: Shelldiver for relaxed incremental progress, SpeedRunners 2 for reflex competition, and Dice a Million for run-based strategy. Use the Game Pass calendar to stage downloads, especially if September 3 and 4 updates collide. None requires waiting for a rumored second wave; all three are confirmed in Xbox’s September 1 announcement.

September 8–10: Black Ops Cold War, The Royal Writ, and Virtua Fighter 5

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War joins September 8 for cloud, console, and PC across Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. Xbox highlights its single-player campaign through Cold War locations including East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, and Soviet KGB headquarters. The package also has the franchise’s multiplayer and Zombies identity, but players should inspect the included installation components and storage options before downloading rather than assuming every mode is a small single file.

This is not a day-one example under the new 2026 Call of Duty policy; it is an existing Call of Duty release entering the broader set of plans. That distinction matters because Xbox’s April policy said future entries would arrive later rather than at launch, while existing catalog titles could remain. If only the campaign interests you, select components carefully where the platform installer permits and verify any Activision account/network requirements.

The Royal Writ arrives September 10 on cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld-optimized devices, and PC for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. Xbox describes a medieval roguelike deck builder in which cards march across a dynamic battlefield and fallen units become part of the kingdom’s legend. Its “sacrifice creates stories” idea separates it from a conventional deck builder where every unit is preserved. It is the midmonth pick for players who want tactical runs and emergent consequences.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage arrives the same day for cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC across those three plans. Xbox points to a new single-player World Stage, cross-play, rollback netcode, enhanced training, and replay tools. Fighting-game newcomers should start in training and World Stage before treating online rank as the main content; veterans will care more about controller setup, latency, and the exact cross-play ecosystem.

The September 8–10 block therefore spans cinematic shooting, card strategy, and technical fighting. Download Cold War early if storage or bandwidth is limited. The Royal Writ is likely the fastest low-risk experiment through cloud or PC. Virtua Fighter rewards a longer learning commitment even when each match is short. September 15: RuneScape: Dragonwilds plus TCG Card Shop Simulator 1.0

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the final new catalog addition named in Wave 1. It arrives September 15 on cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. Set on Ashenfall, it turns the RuneScape setting toward cooperative survival: gathering, building, crafting, skilling, exploration, and eventually confronting dragons and the Dragon Queen. The familiar franchise name should not be mistaken for the long-running MMO itself; Dragonwilds is its own survival adventure.

It is the wave’s clearest choice for a group seeking a persistent project. Survival games ask players to learn resource loops and divide responsibilities, so organize the first session around shelter, tools, and a shared objective rather than racing directly toward the largest enemy. Confirm cross-play, server, account, and save-host details on the live product page before assembling friends across PC and Xbox; a common Game Pass date does not by itself prove every multiplayer configuration.

TCG Card Shop Simulator also has a September 15 milestone, but Xbox places it under Game Updates. The game exits Game Preview and reaches its 1.0 full release on cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld-optimized devices, and PC. Existing Game Pass players are receiving a version milestone rather than a separate new catalog addition. Xbox says the 1.0 game lets players build decks, host tournaments, and run the card shop.

That classification matters for counts and downloads. A headline claiming eight new games by counting TCG again would mislead someone who already has it installed. Existing players should check update size, patch notes, and whether a Game Preview save carries into 1.0 under the official release guidance. New players can still treat September 15 as a good starting point because the product is leaving preview, but the entitlement existed before that date.

The two releases suit opposite management fantasies. Dragonwilds asks a group to build a life and survive in a dangerous landscape; TCG Card Shop Simulator asks one player to optimize a store, collection, and events. Leaving September 6 and September 15

September has two confirmed removal deadlines. Xbox’s August Wave 2 post says NBA 2K26 leaves cloud, console, and PC on September 6. The September Wave 1 post then names ten games for September 15. The early NBA deadline is easy to miss if a player reads only the September announcement, which is why the previous official wave belongs in this month’s research.

Do not try to “finish” every row. Spiritfarer and Cyberpunk 2077 can consume many hours; buy them if an active save has lasting value. Superliminal and Mullet Madjack are more plausible focused priorities. Dead Cells and Deep Rock Galactic Survivor are replayable systems rather than campaigns with a natural final weekend. For those, decide whether continued runs justify ownership.

Platform scope can save unnecessary panic. Cyberpunk’s listed departure is cloud and console, while Frostpunk 2 is PC. Verify the version you play and current app status. Saves normally remain with the account, but an installed game still needs a license after removal, and DLC alone does not replace the base game. Xbox’s September post says members can save on these games before they leave but does not give one universal price in the list. Compare the current member price, edition, and other store sales. A deadline creates urgency, not an obligation to spend.

Wave 2 status, downloads, and September FAQ

As of September 2, Xbox has not announced September Wave 2. The September 1 article ends by telling readers to keep watching Xbox and Xbox Game Pass for updates; it does not provide a second-half list. Do not treat retailer dates, social speculation, or a broad “2026” release window as Game Pass confirmation. A later official Xbox Wire post can add games, change platforms, or correct a departure.

Two other Wave 1 items are useful but separate. EA Sports NHL 27 has a ten-hour EA Play early-access trial on console beginning September 4, and progress can carry to the full game if purchased. That is a timed trial, not unlimited catalog inclusion. Aniimo provides an in-game reward pack on September 16 for Ultimate, Premium, Essential, and PC Game Pass members: one Aniipod Ultra, 15 Growth Flowers, and 300 Glimmer according to Xbox. It is a benefit inside another game, not a new game license.

Plan downloads in three queues. First, finish or buy a September 6 departure. Second, install the confirmed additions that match the hardware and tier. Third, evaluate September 15 departures against remaining progress. Leave storage for a possible later announcement, but do not delete a wanted game for an unconfirmed rumor. Which September game is day one? Xbox explicitly labels SpeedRunners 2 as available day one with Game Pass. The other listed titles have their own status wording, including “Now with Premium” or broad plan access. Do not extend the day-one label to the whole wave.

Are all seven games on Xbox One? No. Several platform lines specify Xbox Series X|S rather than the generic Console label. Check each table row and product page. Cloud access may offer another supported-device path, but it does not create a native Xbox One version.
